***ARC Review***

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and the author.

“The King’s Delight” by Sarah Honey is a charming and delightful (see what I did there) story about the royal horse groom, Felix, and King of Lilleforth, Leopold. The pair happen across one another when Leopold chances sneaking away to ride his beloved horse, Blackbird. Felix mistakes him for a thief and secret romantic hijinks ensue.

Felix is one sassy, snarky, feisty man. Leopold is used to people kissing his butt, so it’s refreshing having someone as outspoken and passionate as Felix in his presence. Leopold and Felix continue their romantic endeavors all while trying to thwart a princess, an assassin, and a kidnapper! Even with all of that going on, the book is pretty low angst. I really enjoyed how sweet both MCs were to one another amid all of the action and banter.

Janus, Mattias, and Mother Jones are excellent side characters. I love the reveal at the end about Davin! I literally laughed out loud. There’s a decent amount of humor and heat in this book. There is a bit of a spanking kink as well. This book is whimsical and fantastical. It’s lovely and engaging. If you are a fan of historical and/or fantasy romances, then this book is for you!

King and Groom, clandestine romance, a bit of kink what more can I ask? Something that could have made this stand out a bit maybe?

The writing was lovely, the story was funny, low angst, with delightful characters BUUUUUT at the same time the characters and the plot could have been anyone at any time and any place and very few things would need to change to adapt it. There wasn't something that had me glued to my screen unable to put it down, so much so that after the 30% I just started skimming the story.

I love the cover though!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I’m sorry but this was so dreadfully boring. It wasn’t even that the book was bad persé, it’s just that it literally bored me to tears.

Nothing about this relationship managed to capture my interest. They had no chemistry or tension, and none of their interactions were particularly fun to read. It was insta-love to the highest degree, and nothing interesting happened between them.
Thus, despite the intriguing promise of a romance between a king and his stable boy, I did not care for these two at all.

I also wasn’t a big fan of the writing, because even though this is a moderately short book, it felt incredibly long. I couldn’t help but skim over half of it since most of the scenes were just completely irrelevant to the story and were unnecessarily dragged out.

I thought this was such a delight to read! Cute romance and some fun spice. I liked the characters a lot. Felix’s dad was so dang sweet. I loved seeing a loving father/son relationship. I would definitely read more of these if it became a series.

Some how too long and for a slightly spicy book skipped a lot of spice.
Literally first full time was a fade to black with slight flashback …. Convenient plot devices and the solutions made a few more problems. It was ok but would not re read
