For the 2-hr audio dramatization: excellent audio production and voice acting makes a for very tense and tightly-executed version of this story. I highly recommend this distillation of the novel.
I read this 30+ years ago and enjoyed it. I had forgotten most of it, so this was a very enjoyable read.
Harris is a reliable author. He knows history well enough so everything feels right, even during this alternative history of 1964 Europe under the Nazis.
The good cop in a bad world trope gets used a lot, but thereās a reason why itās good.
I canāt recall Harris writing a dud. Maybe I should read more of him.

3.5 rounded down.
The end was good and exactly what I was looking for from this book; the first-half bait-and-switch art heist dragged on for way too long and it felt kind of icky for the romance to be such a prominent part of this story. Trying to be a thriller/mystery/romance and a cutting commentary about WWII-era Germany at the same time, which is an odd combination that didnāt land quite right for me. Reminds me of something my high school history teacher would say: āThereās no difference between saying āthe Holocaust was horribleā, and āthe Holocaust was very horrible.āā Some atrocities speak for themselves, and their magnitude doesnāt really benefit from dramatization.
