Started off dry but ended good. If I was more invested in the characters I probably would’ve enjoyed this more but my dumb ass wanted to read the prequel first.

For someone who bangs on about being the kingdom’s best assassin, Celaena makes so many rookie mistakes. She fell into every single trap and cannot scratch her brain enough to figure out who betrayed her and Sam. Her arrogance made her hard to like at the beginning but what bothers me more is her lack of brain cells at times. I suppose that goes with her character (young age and arrogance) but it’s a tad frustrating to read.

May go back and change the rating at a later date if I get attached to the world of ToG and decide to re-read Assassin’s Blade in the future.

Based on the recommendations from strangers across the internet, I decided to read the Throne of Glass series in the “Romantic” order instead of the publication order. Those people claim this order provides the most emotional impact for the reader…and I can now say that I definitely agree. I read this after Heir of Fire (which I loved), so initially I struggled to get into it because I felt like I was going too far back in time. However, after the first of the 5 sections/novella type storylines, I was more interested and realizing a little more why this was going to be impactful. Although the happenings in this book all occur before TOG, they provided a good context and helpful realization about everything Celeana went through to get to where she is now. I feel ready to go into the next book having a more solid grasp on her character development, as well as many other characters who we have or will be meeting again along the way!
