The thing I love most about this book is that somehow, the characters have actual honest conversations with each other, but that doesn’t negate the tension. The conflict exists and moves the plot forward without every point feeling drawn out. I loved not having to wait for the story to move while the “well OF COURSE this will happen next” moments were drawn out forever (as someone who reads romance novels because they’re comfortingly predictable).

Bonus points for: demi MC, found family, intoxicated grandmas

Lost 1/4 of a star because I can’t believe this author made me care about a character who is a LANDLORD

So long as you accept this book as it is, a cheesy hallmark style romance, you're all set.

Also bonus points for this being a romance where the characters are all 26+ love me romance w actual adults.

Will say I hate a third act breakup, especially bc Jack was so insistent on them communicating all for them to *stop* communicating, but I did appreciate getting to see Ellie tackle her issues head on.

Aside from Ellie's messy family history and hedr love story with Jack, even though it's full of love, sadness, confusion, fear and SO MUCH anxiety, it was hard to keep focus with this book; I was always distracted or needed too much or too little of certain pats. Ater a meet cute with the two FMC's and playing 'the honesty game,' there's a miscommunication or lack of truthfulness, I should say and because of that, they don't talk for a year, and that's only because they find themselves in quite a situation again! The is a cute, messy, and fun romcom novel. There were a lot of representation and diversity among the characters, which was well written by the author, and let's not forget the Taylor Swift references, which makes my heart swoon everytime I see one.

I'm not usually one for romances especially holiday related but I couldn't resist since this is set in Portland, OR where I live. It was sweet, silly, and sapphic, just a fun little holiday romp. The characters felt believable as they each have their own little struggles they're dealing with. It still requires a suspension of disbelief which usually keeps me at arm's length with romance books. I'd still recommend it for a light, Christmas read and it's a lot of fun for Portland locals as well. Now I want a cocktail at Bye and Bye…but never a Voodoo donut.
