I’m not sure if a FMC who is demisexual is the best route to go when a major plot line of the books is basically instalove but it was cute. Good for a sapphic holiday read

I loved this book!
Do you guys know when you read a book and it's like looking into a distorted image? This could be a book about my life. I seriously felt like that during this entire book. Ellie was ME and I was terrified to read it.
-swoony holiday romance
-boozy grandmas
-marriage of convenience
-whirlwind romance
When I started this book, I knew I would love it and MAN WAS I RIGHT! I felt immensely glad that this book exists at a time when I can read it. I have NEVER related to a character AS MUCH AS I DID with Ellie. I loved the demi and bisexual rep in the book. I think there should be a lot more books with these types of characters... *shrugs* but this one was a good start. Ellie could have been me and that was so comforting to read about. Jack was a very dynamic character with a lot of valuable insights into how the Portland gays lived, giving Ellie a snowy one-day tour of her new city. You can read the full synopsis above, but rest assured it is just as dramatic as you think it is.
Meet the characters:
Jack-(she/her)
Ellie-(she/her)
Andrew-(he/him)
Dylan-(they/them) Andrew and Jack's childhood best friend
These characters!! I have already talked about Ellie but Jack. Jack is wonderful and I loved her so much. I also wanted to adopt her wardrobe, but that is another matter altogether. When reading about these two, it felt a little bit like watching a movie in my head. They were perfect disasters and I couldn't keep them away. It was one crazy love square. The whole marriage of convenience PLOT WASN'T EVEN THAT IMPORTANT! Especially when you factor in the love square/trapezoid the couples had going on. It was not super heavy to the development of the characters. Andrew was actually the worst at the end, so he could just leave and I would be VERY happy. I would read a Dylan and Andrew novella though.
The boozy grandmas also had my heart! At the book club I went to Alison was able to chat with us and she said she had a side plot with the boozy grandmas actually being in love.. I AM SORRY BUT YES! I need that NOW. Literally so good and I would pay good money to read about their shenanigans.
The plot was full of shocking a hilarious moments, from boozy grandmas, to crazy family outings. Look no further for your next holiday read!

Absolutely adorable sapphic romance set during Christmas time where it ties up nicely at the end? Obsessed. I will definitely come back to this again next Christmas. So freaking cute and ugh and wow.

It’s highly embarrassing that this is my first read of 2023, but it was great. Amusing, kept my interest, and helped me survive several plane rides. My only complaint is that sometimes the main character is so helpless as to border on unlikeable (but maybe I’m just being judgmental). And honestly given the dearth of lgbt romance novels I just have to feel grateful that we have at least one great one.
