An important novella about gender, race, sexuality, and the importance of compassion for ourselves and other people.
"I feel mournful about how much my body has been shaped by men."

"Why is my humanity only seen or cared about when I share the ways in which I have been victimized and violated?"

I can't recommend this book enough, regardless of who you are. I listened to the audiobook, which was read by the author and, in my opinion, highlighted her way with words.

A really interesting perspective on the treatment of women in our modern day society from someone who has lived in the world was a man and later a trans woman. Her identity gives more insight into the issues of misogyny and how it often manifests into violence from the point of view of a young boy being raised in this world and also as an individual who has experience such treatment, in many ways similar to the experiences of cisgendered women but in many ways different as well due to being trans and a person of color. A worthwhile read.

I genuinely do not know how to describe this book. I listened to the audio and it was just fantastic. The words, the language, the structure. It was just absolutely incredible. This is essential reading.

couldn’t recommend this enough! this book challenged how i see others and how i see myself. incredible writings on the idea of the good man and the direct pipeline between misogyny and entitlement to space.

I recommend listening to the audiobook read by the author and listen to the last 15 minutes at 0.75x speed because every word she speaks is stunning

Great, small book.

I felt really pulled into this memoir and thought the author had some really good philosopical points that made me think as well as great voice.

There were a couple of sections where internal and external dialogue were not formatted distinctly and i had to read those sections so many times to understand what the author was trying to say.
