This book was amazing! It’s about a 20 something woman who is 1 year sober and trying to navigate the world.
She is trying to figure out who she is now and how to move through different spaces such as work or even how to have a personal relationship.
As someone who got sober in my 20’s, it is the most relatable thing I have ever read. When you’ve spent all of your formative years under one substance or another, dull or numb to the reaction of other; you have no clue how to manage the most simple of emotional tasks.
Sobriety literature can be very hard for me to read because it so often feels like it’s heavy in the toxic positivity that can come from AA and other recovery groups but this is not that at all. While there is definitely that cult like AA group, the main character is anything but consumed with toxic positivity. She is anxious and nervous and second guesses herself. She’s just trying to figure out who she is without substance to alter her personality. The whole story was very real and raw and honest. I loved it. ❤️

I really enjoyed this one! Emma is the perfectly imperfect main character who is dealing with everything life has thrown at her in her 20's. I felt like the emotion in this book was very real, and I think it was a pretty accurate portrayal of alcoholism and the road back from addiction. This was a really powerful read from a debut author. I will definitely check out her work in the future.
