3.3 AVERAGE

It kept me interested but frustrated at the same time, so it was nice, I enjoyed some bits and hated the others

This was a light read and moved quickly. The story didn’t have the traditional build up and then a resolution. It mainly moved along at a steady pace.

What a fantastic book to listen to. [a:Katherine Kellgren|436308|Katherine Kellgren|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1306784367p2/436308.jpg] did an absolutely smashing job of taking on the characters as she read this book. I liked her so well, I've looked up others she's narrated and cannot wait to hear her read another book. The story was hilarious at times. Those darn English and all of the prim and properness, but then there is Cora's mother who is from the good ole USA and she's terribly snobbish, so which is worse I dare not say....

A perfectly delightful summer read. The American Heiress takes the reader effortlessly back to the outrageous extravagances of The Gilded Age without becoming incredible as a story. Cora Cash is the richest girl in New York City in the 1880's, but isn't from the most socially acceptable family, as her father's fortune is new money.
Her mother rectifies that by taking Cora to England where a chance meeting ends in marriage to a Duke. The young American girl is left to navigate and survive England's complex royal social circles.

Loved the time period of gilded America & England and insight into high society parties and behavior! Kept me intrigued and reading quickly. The ending felt a little abrupt and rushed, but overall I loved it.

I was really excited to receive an ARC of The American Heiress!

This novel was extremely enjoyable...I got into bed every night excited to continue reading. Cora was a heroine you could actually like and wanted to see do well. I felt myself wanting to shield her from her ruthless mother and hoping for only the best for her. The descriptions of the houses, of London and yes, even the clothes made for a quick, easy read.

I would probably best describe this as an "elevated" beach read. It's chick lit with a brain, basically. Add in some spectacular story telling and you have a great book that will keep your interest whether at home or on vacation this summer.

My only one minor complaint was that the ending felt a bit rushed. It went from 0-60 in about .25 seconds. However, Ms. Goodwin absolutely finished the story off beautifully!

If you enjoyed The Buccaneers, you will like this book. I loved the characters, especially the two primary POVs (Cora (the heiress) and her ladies' maid Bertha) who are both smart, observant, and sympathetic. The novel teased a variety of possible resolutions and convinced me of the rightness of its ending even though I'd been all for a different direction only pages before.

The author could have dug a bit deeper and gone a bit darker with her story -- after all, the novel is dealing with matters of class, money, age differences, and the many frictions between the old and new worlds where each variance meets -- so it was a bit of a lighter read than I'd anticipated, but for all of that, very engaging and enjoyable.

Interesting concept but it just didn't keep my attention very much.

Fun historical fiction romance, ESP if you love downton abbey

Very quick read, would make a good beach/vacation book.
