Total fluff, but I enjoyed it.

I really, really wanted to love this book. All of the historical aspects were so fascinating to me, but I think the story just fell flat. The male characters in this book were master-manipulators which made them impossibly difficult to like or even tolerate. While I think the storyline was great, I hardly think it required nearly 500 pages and an ending that totally fizzled out. There were some redeeming factors about the book...mainly the female lead, Cora Cash who was the only role that the author really developed. I loved that we knew her as a naive young girl and got to see her transition into a woman / mother. Despite some of her negative qualities, you really come to love her and relate to her. Overall, it was OK. I didn't totally hate it, but I didn't love it either.

Simplistic writing, and often super repetitive, I kept waiting for the climax of the book, but it never arrived. What should have been minor details were drawn out and explored in way to much depth, whereas 'dramatic' plot points were glazed over. I found it to be a poor replication of pride and prejudice crossed with Downton abbey, but without any real soul, just flashy and empty events with hollow (and ridiculously named) characters. I really wanted to like it, but it was overly cliche and not worth the simple reads. Victoria is much better.

Mediocre at best. Predictable, wordy and not very engaging.

This was good, closer to 3.5 though. The main reason is because I couldn't tell which romantic couple I was supposed to be rooting for. Maybe that was the point I guess?

I listened to this book on audio. I was engaged in the story and I liked it, however I did feel that there was something missing. I don't know what was missing but it just seemed like something was. Throughout the story, I was wondering where the plot was going. I didn't really get my answer until the end of the book. I think the author could have fleshed out the plot a little more in the beginning and middle of the story. This was a debut novel, so there is only room for improvement.

Good for anyone interested in reading about the time period and lifestyle made popular by Downton Abbey. I probably could've done without the secondary storyline of the maid since it didn't really seem to go anywhere. I'm wondering if there is a planned sequel, because I'm unsatisfied with how the story ends.

Good "escape" book, but fairly predictable.

Sounded interesting but could not keep my attention.
