This was a very touching read about grief and about surf.
This autobiographical graphic novel by AJ dungo tells the story of Kirsten (AJ’s girlfriend) and her love for surf.
It was a very short read that taught me a lot about surf and even though I didn’t understand throughout the book why surfing made such an important place in the story, I understood how AJ tries to honour his love’s one’s passion as well as diving into it to deal with his own grief.

I’m pretty sure this book completely glossed over the fact that Hawaii was a sovereign kingdom that was illegally overthrown and annexed by the US. Also, I wish that their relationship felt more two-sided. I get that grief makes that hard, but it doesn’t sit well with me.
