There were definitely times i felt that i was not age target of comic but i do think it teaches a lot about what the experiences in these camps was like that even someone who knows the history of the event likely does not know.  So the content and art was great even if there were times i felt the writing lacking.

This really connected with me, given that I'm also half-Asian and feel super disconnected to my heritage (for me, family had pressure to Americanize after the Vietnam War v. in the book it's because of Japanese internment). There's a lot of history that I kind of know but feel like I can't ask, and Hughes did such a great job of conveying that. I also loved that she tied her family's experience to present-day racism that needs to be challenged, especially against Latinx and Muslim people.
