It’s a cute read and it was a fun surprise that it included characters from the Pucked series.

I really liked this! It is very cliche and it’s very cute and fluffy from start to finish, but it was just what I needed.

So sweet and precious and adorable and wonderful! I cried so much but all because of how much these two people loved each other. I just simply loved it!

You’re safe. Human teddy bear right here for safety cuddles.

I should tell him my own truth. But for now we’re tied: a lie for a lie.

🏒 First book in a series
🏒 First person dual POV
🏒 Second chance romance
🏒 Hockey player / Masters student
🏒 He hides his identity
🏒 Meet cute
🏒 Well established secondary characters; family & teammates to set up sequels
🏒 MC Growth; trauma, grief, trust, independence from family
🏒 Anxiety representation
🏒 Epilogue
🏒 Quick read
🏒 pregnancy trope

⚠️ Death of a parent, grief, pregnancy, gun violence (past trauma revisited on page), panic attacks/disorders.

Their time in Alaska was cute but the whole “lie for a lie” premise didn’t seem reasonable to me.

Also wasn’t a fan of the guy.

I definitely guessed the “twist,” or Lanie’s secret pretty early, but since it isn’t revealed til the middle of the book I won’t reveal it here. It’s not my favorite trope to read, and this book is very insta-lust, insta-love, but it was cute and a decent read.

I didn’t like the lack of female empowerment - Lanie gets a job as a marine biology researcher at a zoo, and everyone keeps calling her a tour guide. Why do we as a society feel the need to belittle smart women? She had three master’s degrees. She’s earned the acknowledgment of her own damn job title.
