I thought the premise was cute but the writing often left me lurching...lines were abruptly dropped in ways that made me think I had missed something, and the inter character dialogue wasn't great.

3.5 stars. I feel like this book should have had a higher rating. The characters are realistic and dimensional, the concept was interesting, the conflicts weren't overly dramatic and there wasn't anything problematic. It should have been 4-5 stars. And yet, I found it difficult to get through the last half of this book. It really started to drag out more and I wasn't looking forward to reading it after some time, only finishing it. I appreciated an unexpected and more realistic turn of events in one of the relationships, but I didn't feel like I saw enough chemistry between the two characters for it to make sense. It felt like the author was rushing with that one at the end.

A lonely artist creates a journal where he poses the question of whether we are our true authentic selves. He writes and leaves the book behind at a cafe for someone else to find, share their story, and pass on the book. Six individuals contribute to the pages and find their lives intertwined, helping to alleviate the loneliness each of them felt at the start.

Really, a clever and thought provoking read that has you thinking a lot about how we see or perceive other’s stories, the importance of being authentic and community. What I enjoyed most about this book is getting to know the characters involved and following along in their experiences, as different as they are. I also enjoyed the concept of being honest or authenticity, especially in the day and age where online at least is about putting your best or edited version out there...this book gets you thinking about the idea of true connection.

A wonderfully light and intriguing read.
