— the writing scratches an itch to my brain. it transported me to another side of the literary world. the way the story drove us to use another human sensory — smell — is fascinating and shook me at my core. I find scent as one of the hardest things to talk about / describe despite myself having a strong sense of smell. there were a lot of chapters and parts that just blew me away. It's also interesting how a scent can change your perception and attitude to people. I know this could have been shorter but the build up was so good that the last few chapters got me panting because of how claustrophobic it made me feel. this is definitely one of the books that are vile and repugnant that will just leave you feeling icky everywhere, but in a good way.
I also adored the chapters that involved the process of perfume making especially since this book was made in 1985. i am soo curious about the main character's perfume like I WANT TO SMELL IT SO BAD
