An interesting book when it comes to learning the linguistic origins of different character names in Tolkien's work. There's some repetition of information, and there's some conclusions the author has drawn where it's unclear if he's quoting something Tolkien actually said or not, but over all it was full of interesting information and parallels to established mythology and literature history.

Not thorough as I hoped it would be, but an informative and fun read nonetheless.

A fun book with really cool illustrations. It definitely helps to have read the silmarillion beforehand

I really think these books forgot where they originally started at as a guide. They now tell you where everything derived from and which words mean what in a different mythology. It's all a comparison of Tolkien and mythologies around the world. I thought these books were supposed to go further into Tolkiens world.

Simplistic, barely explored linkages which suffer from bland repetition (1/5). Rescued by the art (4/5).
