That was adorable. Quick read to get through, talk about a slow burn, I hope they get together in the next book damn!

3.5 I was tipped off that this first book had a slower start so it helped knowing that.

That being said, Alexis and Daisy are a riot. So much quick humor. I was always entertained. And I am definitely intrigued by demi-god Kerian and his smoldering stares. I’m looking forward to seeing how this series unfolds.

Listened to the audiobook, very entertaining!

Everything about this book was amazing. The characters. The found family. The world building. The magic system. The story. All are perfection. I read most of this book in one day and my only regret is not finding the series earlier.

It just was such a great start to a series. Especially for those who don't like epic cliffhangers. This book ends at a natural place that you don't feel mad about and immediately need to consume the next book if you like to take breaks in series.

I loved this book. It was an excellent start to a series, that build the world and set up the plot of the following books without me even realizing, "Oh, we are setting up what's coming." I just sat back and enjoyed it. While the book didn't end on a cliffhanger, which I deeply appreciated, it still left me wanting more of the story and the characters. And no just the main characters. I adore Alexis, and I think Kiernan is going to be a top 10 Morally Gray Character, but the secondary characters are just fantastic.

I am not a person who likes have kids as characters in books I am reading. I normally find they detract from the story, but KF Breene changed my mind. The found family of this book is just perfect. Daisy and Mordi were perfectly written and play off each other well. I love that the "found family" swaps around who is the adult, and just acknowledges it. And they all do an amazing job of lifting each other up and keeping each other on track. Then add Kiernan and his Six. I am desperate for more them and to find who they are where they come from.

The world building and the character development are done brilliantly. The layers of the world and the characters are presented in a way that I never felt like I was lost or trying to memorize any kind of lore or structure. And I also never felt like I was making huge leaps in logic. Everything just flowed really nicely.

Definitely recommend if you like …

What i loved!!!!!!

The world building and the different types of beings and the jurisdiction they lived under it all felt very Kate Daniels, but with a unique spin on things.....

I loved Alexis and the way she loves and protects her wards... she comes across more of a big sister but they are her weakness and she would do anything for them.

The plot line was intricate and so interesting...Book is definitely a 4.5.....

The book Unfurls as Alexis and Keiran meet, Keiran sensing she isn't what she seems, stalks and investigates further as the story unleashes all different paranormal elements and entities, Alexis trying to scavenge a place in the world for her and her "Kids" Falls down the rabbit hole with new discoveries about herself.

Why not a 5?

The big problem for me was Alexis not investigating further into her abilities and fudging her tests to get a lower score for no real apparent reason... I get her not wanting to leave Daisy but they have only been together 4 years... testing before that? as they are obviously tested in adolescence..... The whole book she moaned about being poor when she could have made a better life for herself easily.... she doesn't have a great manner with people... so she would rather be a sales assistant?.... it was all a bit baffling there for me.....

But other than that amazing

unexpected but highly enjoyable

I got this as a special edition in a book box recently. I’ve never read anything by this author nor heard of this series so I was excited to give it a try. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite series. I really enjoy Alexis and the kids the most but Kieran and his six are going to be really interesting. Also…turns out this is not a series of standalones lmao I do hope the settings ends up returning to Ireland because let’s be honest, SF is boring the house.
