I actually really enjoyed this book. It was a light melodramatic romp into page-turning escapist entertainment, a rare treat for me. The characters were genuinely interesting, the concept fascinating and full of surprising moral depth (even if other writers did it first), and while there were certainly some echoes of Twilight in the love quadrangle drama, I felt that Meyer handled the same issues in a much more mature manner this time around. I would definitely read the sequels if she ever gets around to releasing them, it was a fun read.
this has gone on the abandoned shelf. I am about halfway through and really don't care about any of the characters. It is not very well written and I am bored with it
I had high hopes for this book since I thought the plot/idea was interesting. I should have known better. Why did I expect the author of Twilight to really be able to write a compelling story. I even tried to watch the movie, I barely made it 10 min in!
I thought it started off really slow and confusing but once I got the concept, this book flew. Meyer describes it as a sci-fi book for those who don't like sci-fi and I can see why! The characters were intriguing and the relationships make the story so real and deep. I definitely recommend this one and can't wait for the other two. That's right; she's announced it's a trilogy and you will understand how at the end.
Definitely better than Twilight: The Host is more of an adult read without any of the sappy teenage love. Plus it has an interesting sci-fi plot.
I read all the Twilight books and was happy to see that Stephenie Meyer released a book written for adults.... but I just cant get into it. Doubt I will finish it.
I wanted to like this book. I wanted to like it so bad! I saw the movie first, and it was kind of alright. Not the greatest, but okay to for a rental. So over the summer I raided my friend's bookshelf, and came back with this book. Wow this book looks like a brick, but no problem.
It was torture.
It dragged on endlessly. It dragged on and on for 600+ pages. At least 200 I feel like could have been cut. The characters were blah. Including Wanda. Yeah I understand she doesn't know what it's like to be human, but I tired of her learning about us so fast. I feel like it would have been more interesting if it was set on that other planet that rebelled or died off (that flower one?). I also wanted to escape that cave/rock hideout. I could feel myself resisting stockholm syndrome we were there so long.
I can't believe this is listed as a potential series. Who am I kidding? Of course I can believe it.
