I decided to read this book because I remember when I first saw the movie, a good while ago, I really enjoyed it. I went to rewatch the movie here recently and decided that I wanted to read the book before I rewatched the movie because I remembered enjoying it so much… well, if I go to rewatch the movie, and enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading this book then I’m not going to enjoy re-watching this movie. I figured since I liked the movie so long ago that the book would be better and it wasn’t. Maybe it’s because when I watched the movie I was in high school, so I’m remembering it through rose colored glasses, however, this book was very mid. I feel like it was a lot of filler and there wasn’t much building and I don’t think I would recommend this book to anyone who was looking for something to read. It’s a good book if you need something to fill your time, but it is not something that I would recommend picking up if you want an extensive plot line/storyline. In all honesty I don’t think that there’s a reason that this book should be as long as it is considering the lack of building.
Not to mention the fact that Stephany Myers named three of her main characters with J names, and sometimes my brain would get them muddled together, and it would make it difficult to differentiate between who is speaking. There were times where I would have to re-read scenes because I didn’t remember what J named character was speaking.

I think my rating might be biased, I have unfortunately seen the on screen adaptation (which I throughly enjoyed) prior to reading, so I constantly compared the two. But I love the book so much more, not only for the detail but for what was left out, which made me connect with the characters further than I was expecting. This is also the first book that really made me cry in a while (which is saying a lot). Honestly I’m slightly upset it took me so long to read this story of Stephenie Meyer’s, I’m surprised at how different it is from The Twilight Saga but am SO grateful for it! Great read!
This book was pretty good to me. When I read it, I was currently angry at Stephenie Meyer because I had just read the fourth Twilight book and I was like "What on earth am I reading?!?" (I don't like the fourth one AT ALL) ... But The Host partially restored the respect that I had for Stephenie Meyer.
I thought it was incredibly long though and many parts were very drawn out. There was not enough action, at all. And it was kind of annoying that she threw in another love triangle like in Twilight. I didn't like that she repeated herself that way.
But the book wasn't bad. The movie was. Worst movie ever. But the book wasn't bad.

This book started out terribly depressing to me, but it grew on me quickly as a little hope started to build in the characters. I loved the complexities of the alien invaders and the strength displayed by the main character's human mind. My only complaint is Stephenie Meyer's tendency to write too-neat endings where everyone is happy, no matter how unlikely that is. She would have done better to leave a little tragedy in the ending.
4/5 stars
I have wanted to read this book for years now, especially because I had enjoyed the movie. At first very confused with all the J’s ( Jared, Jamie, and Jeb). Kinda confused about how the host and soul worked and the world building but once I got the hang of it, I couldn’t stop reading.
Definitely worth reading !

Completely disturbing and disappointing! Totally not worth it!
Oh, Chapter 40. I loved Chapter 40! I don't know that I've ever had a favorite chapter in a book before.
And can I just say, Wanda?! Seriously? Wanda? That's the best name she could come up with? Wanda. I know where it came from, but good lord. I might have been happier with Buffy or Daisy.
I'm not sure how I feel about the end yet; Im still processing it, but I'm leaning toward "eh."

Stephanie Meyer really needs to learn the art that is brevity. Holy moly, did I skim this tome--pages upon pages at a time. I still managed to follow the plot exactly and get a feel for the characters (many of whom sounded and acted the same). Like many others' complaints, mine is that Meyer is a good storyteller, but not a good writer. The idea behind this is fascinating, but it gets so lost in the details. I have nothing against details...when the author is good and poetic about it. Meyer is neither. Good light reading...er, skimming, but not much more than that.
A fine teen sci-fi romance. Not sensing much below the surface on this one.
