I've read this book multiple times & it's always such a treat. The world that Meyer created is so interesting--different than any other apocalyptic book I've ever read. The world building is fantadtic. The plight if Melanie & Wanderer. The relationships forged between them Jamie, Jared, Ian & all the others. The sacrifices made for the greater good. But knowing love prevailed, in so many ways.
Yes, Twilight is a joke, something I couldn't stand to read now as an adult. But this one stands up over the years for me. My only regret is she never wrote the sequel.

Bit long. Jared was a jerk in the middle. And the romance was slightly odd, but I LOVED it in the end.
Infinitely better than any of the Twilight books (all of which I've read and have rated as 'it was ok'.) This has great insight into humanity and our inner struggle. The love "triangle" is believable and compelling. I hope that Twilight readers will chance to read this and realize that there's more to literature than sparkly vampires and annoying heroines.
**May 2013-time for a re-read on the NOOK!**
6/2013-I had forgotten how much I really enjoy this book! It shows that Ms Meyer IS a fine author, with the help of a good editor. The characters are interesting, there is depth to the primary characters. She has created a world i want to know more about. And I really want to know more about the "souls" and their home world and how they evolved as they did. can't wait for the next book!
I found this to be a very interesting story (though I love Sci-fi) but it makes you really think about what it means to be human, what makes "you" really "you".

FABulous beach read if you loved anything about the Twilight series
What did I think? I never really eclipsed page seventy five, it's sad to say, I flew through the twilight series wayyy before the hype (in which I started to deny I read them...sheep) and this one missed for me. . I just couldn't get hooked, sure, I bought it and one day I could crack it open, but I suppose my kindle would have to be empty and my shelves of books vanish.
I liked that I was able to feel for both sides of the story. I couldn't decide who I wanted to "win". The entire time that I was reading I was wondering how this book could possibly end in a satisfactory manner. I couldn't come up with anything that was going to make me happy. Luckily, Stephenie was able to.
SUCH a good book, it gets me every time I read it.
When The Host by Stephanie Meyer arrived and I discovered that it is science fiction and over 600 pages long, I wondered what I had gotten myself into. I quickly found out there was no need to be worried. Even though this book is science fiction, it’s not technical, filled with unfamiliar words or “way out” there. For me, it was a great story about relationships and accepting others for who they are on the inside rather than for what they look like on the outside. I found this book to be engaging and thought provoking. This is my first experience with Stephanie Meyer’s work and if her other books are like this, I can see why they sell so well – she’s a great storyteller. You really get your money’s worth with this book! An excerpt of The Host is available on Stephanie Meyer’s website.
I really enjoyed this book. Stephenie Meyer really knows how to write a long book! By the end I couldn't read fast enough.
