Loved this novel mixed with a mystery, set in Australia. I almost didn't pick it up, I am tired of the "two timelines" set up in novels, but this was example of why it is so effective.

DID NOT FINISH: 5%

Overly descriptive with irrelevant details. Just too slow moving for a 500+ page book.

Loved the story-there were many twists, some that I saw coming and some I did not. Loved the descriptions of nature in Australia and flawed characters that you could get behind. Beautiful writing, but this book could've used a heavier hand with the editing. I'm all for all the details when the scene is set, the characters are introduced, and there's information very pertinent to the storyline, but I don't think everything needs to have layers of details just for the sake of it, and especially not reiteration of the same descriptive details. It's for that reason that this is a 4 and not a 5 for me.

This is my first experience of reading anything by Kate Morton and boy does she know how to write a book! It was descriptive, immersive and seriously greatly written. It had such a magical quality to it.

I’ve always struggled to engage in split timeline plots as it’s just a personal preference. Split perspectives, split timelines and the length of the book certainly requires you to slow down and take careful note. This book is a chonk! It wasn’t a drudge though and the book dwindled quickly. Occasionally my brain fogged out whilst listening so I dropped a few threads but that was my own fault. I always managed to regain the thread again. You do need your wits about you though through all the chapters.

It helped the narrator was fab and really helped bring the pages to the reader (or listener). After this one, I certainly will look out for more from this author.

Thank you to the author and publisher for this audiobook on NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts and review.

I finished this book feeling completely torn and frustrated with a few of the characters. I have sat on my couch in stunned silence for way too long trying to figure out the tangled web of characters, relationships, and lies. This will definitely stick with me for a long time.
