This is probably more like 3.5 stars (not that stars actually mean anything). I was definitely absorbed in the story and the atmospheric writing, but the twists and turns got a little bit clumsy at times and I regularly had to pause to remind myself who was who and which timeline I was in at any given moment.

Better than 3 stars but not 4. I do like the complicated stories that Kate Morton comes up with and I think I would have awarded a full 4 stars but it was too long! I think I've read all of hers and I knew that I was in for a long book but there were redundancies that could have been left out. Good story, good characters, too long!
