This was my first book by Emma Hamm and I quite enjoyed it. It was well written, fun, and the romance was good. I liked Lore and Abaraxas. Lore wasn’t your typical MFC and every time she seemed to be headed down that route the author would find some way to spin it away when the POV would switch back to Lorelei’s.

There were a few instances I found ridiculous - the corsets apparently being the perfect attire to “move swiftly and silently” as well as to fight in. Hun, the whole point of corsets were to make you ridged and tight. Swift movement would not be had and it would be seriously uncomfortable. Just because you’re writing a romance doesn’t mean the women need to dress in sexy, skin tight, impractical clothing.

The “Elfweed” gave me a good laugh as well as Lore’s paranoia over being caught selling it, as if it was worse than her plotting to kill the king. Lol.

I also wish we saw more of Beauty because I quite liked her.

4-Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me! And best read of 2022 so far.

I enjoyed. A typical fantasy romance with a bit of a twist. I like the independence of the female lead

Nice story!

Fire Heart is the first book am reading from the author and definitely not a last! I loved how she navigated the characters, world building, the plot. It was well written and it was medium-fast paced, longing, angst, dragons, humans/elves, rebellion, slow burn, hate to love/enemies to lovers. Both interesting and intriguing! I loved Abraxax and Lore and their forced proximity. How they both worked together to take down their common enemy and the pain they felt because the mortal kings killed their Kind. Gonna read book 2!

It took me a bit to figure out why I liked this book even to write a review for it. To put it simply, this book isn't amazing or groundbreaking. It is just a light fun read. The writing style gives you enough to immerse yourself in the world but doesn't bombard you with too many details or intricacies. The story moves along at the perfect pace, not too fast that you get whiplash, but also not too slow where there are chapters of nothing happening or just filler. Each chapter or character interaction felt meaningful and part of moving the plot along.

There were some things that I would roll my eyes at and I think the author just needed a better editor perhaps that would catch these things. First at the beginning of the book the use of "elfweed" seemed pretty silly to me. Maybe that's just the best way to describe it, but I just felt myself laughing at this word anytime I saw it. Luckily it was only the first few chapters where we learn that Lore, the MC, is just a weed dealer.

Second, and something that probably every low star review brings up is how "wonderful, amazing, great not like the others" Lore is. While Lore doesn't actually say this herself or about herself, it is Abraxas the dragon that can be the one talking up the MC like she is the most wonderful person he's ever met. It is almost unnoticeable at first but the more he gets infatuated with Lore, and the more the story goes on I can definitely understand why this would be a huge eye roller. It didn't cause me to put the book down but it does get on the annoying side towards the second half of the book.

Otherwise, I think the story was great. It threw enough wrenches in Lore's plans to make it believable that she didn't succeed at every task she was given. I ended up loving Zander, this horrible king we're probably supposed to hate him but I found him one of the most amusing characters in the whole book. I also loved Beauty the subtle hints about her got me in the beginning but, without too much spoilers, I was still surprised at the end of the book and honestly, I really enjoyed that.

It's not amazing or groundbreaking. The bride tournament to win a king, falling in love with his guard instead, tricked into helping a rebellion. This isn't a new idea but the world Emma Hamm gives us, the characters, and the fun writing. It was an enjoyable and light experience and I am looking forward to reading the next one!

Easily one of my favorite books of all time. The characters are so relatable and the story is magic! This book, to me, felt like coming home—I felt so understood & seen. This main character is badass & the love story between Lor and Abraxas is to die for.

I love the purity of this story & boldness of its characters. I will be reading this book over and over! Ultimate comfort read.

And dragons !!!!!!!!! I love everything about it.

Fire Heart was such a great read! It has been a while since I have delved into fantasy thanks to other genres occupying my time and I am so glad Fire Heart was my first read back. It is told in dual PoV (LOVE) via Lore, a half elf woman, and Abraxas, the kings bodyguard and dragon (fun!)

Lore and Abraxas' paths meet by unfortunate chance as they both serve the King against their will. The King who hates magic and magical creatures.. Lore is reluctantly helping the resistance by pretending to want to be the bride of the King while trying to hide her heritage.

Abraxas was forced into servitude of the crown since the previous King sat on the throne and while he is unhappy he stays and is compliant for one reason.

This book has compelling characters and plot that involves a competition and all the action and danger you could want in a book. Love, love, love it.

Wow just wow! I finally got my hands on Fire Heart by Emma Hamm. Not only is it a beautiful book, but the story is a nice breath of fresh air. It follows Lorelei a half human, half Silverfell Elf as she attempts to woo the childish Umbra King in order to kill him and free her people. The only thing standing in her way is the shapeshifting dragon and the irreversible pull she feels towards him.

This book is filled with strong female characters, epic fight scenes, and an overprotective, alpha dragon who will do anything to protect his mate. I highly recommend this series for anyone who is a fan of Elise Kova’s work because Emma Hamm has a similar writing style. I also recommend this book for anyone who loves a good slow burn, enemies to lovers, fae fantasy, with winged morally grey loved interests. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book especially after that killer cliffhanger; April 11th cannot get here soon enough.

This book is not particularly good. But it’s also not awful.
Lore is a half elf whose roped into a plot to try and kill the evil king. But she also thinks that the kings bodyguard (who is a shapeshifting dragon) is also super hot.
Question 1: why does the dragon have clothes when he shifts back into a human? They kind of hand wave and chalk it up to magic…but why.
There is a lot of unnecessary and dumb info dumps. Like explaining why the color of dragons matter.
