honestly the plot made my head hurt but i loved all the family and friend scenes and esp seeing jaredtate madocfallon jaxjuliet as parents 😭 the amount of times jaredtate’s history was brought up i can’t breathe.
madoc and kade’s relationship is sooo. he really drives madoc absolutely INSANE. everyone still refers to madoc as the silly one but here comes kade and madoc’s eyes start twitching.

“'You are significant,' I say quietly (...). 'Scientists say that nearly all the atoms in our bodies were made in a star. And many of those atoms have traveled through several supernovas. (...) You weren't born here. You were born billions of years ago, Aro. You're stardust.' I look over, meeting her eyes. 'The stars don't need to see you. They know you.'”

Oh, Hawke Trent you really did a number on me. I want to preface this review by saying that I'm itching to read this book again even when I finished it hours ago. Penelope did an amazing job with the characters: Aro could've easily become another of those annoying FMC but instead had a sensibility and humanness to her that usually eludes those type of "macho-i-can-do-everything"heroines; Hawke Trent is imo the epitome of 'do i wanna be him or be with him?', perfect gentleman, plagued by the expectations on his shoulders AND reliable.
Now, onto the bad things. I think Penelope had her fingers in too many pies with this plot; there were too many things happening at once and not all of them got to be resolved in the end, or got the attention they deserved. We found out that Aro and Hawke shared their passion for Astronomy, but nothing came of it, we never got a cute moment of them interacting about it. Overall, the book was beatifully written, as per Pen's costum, but the plot felt as if she was trying to recall it from memory: hazy & unorganized.
I truly love this author and am invested in her writing journey, I just wish she would get new editors or beta-readers that'd tell her when she clearly needs to go under another round of editing. I knowshe can write great things, because Kill Switch is living proof of it.

not gonna lie I was super overwhelmed with all the people we were introduced to right of the bat but once I got past that and we got into the story this book was great. it was fast paced and I was/am super invested with the phone mystery.
Aro & Hawke… frustration is the word that comes to mind when I think of these two. they were both so stubborn about being together. I loved their banter and she was so sweet with him and only him honestly 😂.
I loved seeing Jax & Juliet being parents & Hawke is a perfect combo of the two of them.
as far as side characters go: I loved Dylan even though she’s a little reckless haha & Kade can just go anywhere else please and i’m hoping that Tommy does not give him the time of day.
super pumped to find out about the Hunter, Kade & Dylan drama in Pirate girls!
