Horrible - it is almost like someone else wrote this book.

This one had a very strong start, but the suspense crept in very slowly. Once it hit the halfway point, things started clicking into place. The villain’s POV got darker and more unsettling as the story went on, and I found the motivation behind the murders interesting…but the way the killers talked was extremely cheesy.

The romance between Sloan and Noah didn’t do it for me. I just didn’t feel the chemistry. And I usually don’t mind a little side plot, but the construction and gardening felt like a distraction from the murder investigation.

I still enjoyed this one overall and would recommend it if you’re into police procedurals with a touch of closed-door romance.

Nora Roberts nails it again in Hidden Nature. Sloan is a badass cop who overcomes near death and on her own uncovers serial killers roaming around a 2 hour radius of her childhood home. She is fierce, independent and takes no crap from anyone. This book is a testament to how women can be just as strong, capable, knowledgeable, and twisted as any man.

 Audiobook

Sloan Cooper returns to her hometown after being shot in the line of duty. She must find the strength to heal and move forward. While rebuilding her life, Sloan stumbles upon a streak of mysterious disappearances, which sends her down another dangerous path.

Suspenseful Thriller meets HGTV! Sloan is a relatable main character who allows readers to connect with her almost immediately. This story is about growth, family, romance, and serial killers! A little bit for everyone! And a LOT of home renovation and design talk. Yet, somehow, all the random parts work together for an interesting read!

My First Nora Roberts Novel—and Absolutely Not My Last!
Talk about an unforgettable introduction. After single-handedly taking down three men targeting innocent hikers, Sloan McBride is riding high—until fate throws her into the eye of a storm. She strolls into a convenience store and, in a flash, is caught in a robbery. One heartbeat later, she’s on the floor—shot, her life teetering between worlds.
Revived in a hospital and faced with a grueling recovery, Sloan’s world crumbles. Not only is she physically incapacitated, but she's forced to return to her parents' home for support—just in time to be abandoned emotionally as well. Her boyfriend cruelly dumps her while she lies in a hospital bed fighting for her life.
Looking for purpose amid the wreckage, Sloan plunges into a chilling mystery. A woman has vanished without a trace, leaving only her car behind. That single thread unravels into a tapestry of disappearances across multiple states. The victims? No pattern. No predictability. Young, old, male, female—all gone.
Enter a new partnership and an unexpected spark. Sloan teams up with a man who shares her relentless drive to uncover the truth, and together they dive headlong into a case that defies logic and demands answers.
Now, let’s talk character depth—Roberts delivers it in spades. The emotional layers, the nuance, the authenticity? Absolutely gripping. This novel blends romance, suspense, and family drama with such finesse it leaves you breathless.
And the audiobook? Flawless. The narrator nails every mood swing, every eerie twist, sending chills down my spine in all the right places.
Highly recommended. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to experience this wild, unmissable ride.

All of her characters are the same at this point. The main characters always talk the same. I think after decades of buying her books I’m finally done. It seems she has no imagination left.
