This book is a mixture of mystery, suspense and romance. For me, it was somewhat predictable and did not have the twists and turns that I expected. Despite this, it had strong, well-developed characters with interesting banter between the main characters. The book did not keep me reading it all night, but overall, it was well written, entertaining, and a decent read.

Elizabeth Lowell is still a pretty new to me author but I’m really enjoying the mix of mystery and romance she has in her books. Tanner has come home to his family’s ranch to say goodbye to his uncle. He’s not convinced that his uncle died of natural causes and that’s not just the cop in him. Shaye has worked hard to preserve the ranches in the area but a mix up with the paperwork leaves her without a chance to save Tanner’s uncle’s ranch. As they slowly get to know each other better they can’t fight their growing attraction or the feeling that someone is out to stop Tanner from saving the ranch. Good read, I’m excited to try more from Ms. Lowell.

I just couldn't care about these characters or what happened. Maybe it's me - I'm having terrible luck with books lately.

The 1963 Austin Mini Cooper S is a very cool car. In 1963 it was the car to drive and over the years its cool factor has only increased.
On my most generous day the best I could say about the 2013 Mini Cooper S is it's a girl car. The truth is, despite it's best efforts, the 2013 Mini Cooper S isn't cool, it's safe. It's the sort of car where cup holders and a USB port to plug your iPod into is more important than how it handled on the Nürburgring.

descriptiondescription

What does that have to do with this book? Well, Dangerous Refuge is like the 2013 Mini Cooper S. It's not offensive, not risky...in a word it's safe. The over-riding feeling I get with this book is it's Elizabeth Lowell cashing in on her name.
The fans will enjoy it, but she isn't going to win any new fans with this one.

Fast paced thriller with likable characters, a sizzling love story, murder and mayhem, all in the name of money. Can't ask for much else. The last five chapters flew by.

If you like this genre, you'll like this book. Elizabeth Lowell does it again.

A very enjoyable read. A little too much romance but Lowell is very good writer.

Elizabeth Lowell really knows how to write romantic suspense. This book isn't extremely dynamic, but it does have a nice pace and good balance between the romance and the suspense. The two main characters were very likeable, and the suspense story was very believable. There were some loose ends left at the conclusion of the story, so I hope that the town of Refuge gets another visit from Elizabeth Lowell.
