I couldn't get into this one. The dialogue was extremely unrealistic and the plot was moving so quickly I was getting whiplash and was continuously pulled out of the story. It felt like I was reading a story someone had written instead of experiencing one, if that makes sense.
3.25 stars. Libby audio. Kept my attention, but I guessed the biggest plot twist very early on and the ending was a bit anticlimactic to me

This book had a sad story about a mother from China whose infant daughter was adopted without her consent to a family in America. When she figures this out, she gets to America and manages to become her own daughters nanny, but she must also work in an Asian strip club to pay back her debts and try to save the money to escape with her daughter. So much leads up to the climax that once that part happens it all ends so abruptly that I felt it was too quick and easy. Good concept, fairly good execution, but the ending lacked the heft I felt it needed.

This book was gut wrenching and real. I am not sure what the purpose the love interest served, but overall, this captured so many unknowns about immigrant experiences fleeing their country for safety, only to be met with more monsters.
