This book was a great story, and did teach me some new things about Chinese history and culture. However I felt some things about the way the story wrapped up were far fetched and didn’t play well with the character development.

Another winner from Jean Kwok!! But full disclosure, I have loved every book that Jean Kwok has written - such an amazing and talented writer.

This was a carefully researched and planned book from the beginning to the fantastic ending!! Bombshell alert!!

The book speaks to paid illegal immigration by "snakeheads", immigrant "social" clubs that take advantage of desperate women, to "questionable" international adoptions. That is a lot of quotes, but it is accurate.

This is a VERY good read!

HIGHEST recommendation

An emotional read! I enjoyed the stories of Jasmine and Rebecca, as well as the differences/parallels the two experienced. The twists were fantastic, and I really felt for Jasmine especially. This is a 3.75 star read for me because the pacing sometimes felt off and there were a lot of details that tended to drag, but it was still enjoyable. The ending made me cry!

I highly recommend this to anyone!

I really liked the middle of the book but the beginning and the end were not great.
