This was an excellent audiobook. A rollercoaster with a lot of mystery and also a publishing through-line.

3.8 rounded up. This was not what I was expecting at all and it definitely should be removed from the thriller category. The premise surrounds Jasmine and Rebecca, Jasmine being from China flees her country and travels to America to escape her dark past. Rebecca is rich editor who adopted a girl from china and struggles with being a present mom while also having a career. I assumed this was to merely highlight the struggles Jasmine faced and personally I didn’t like Rebecca. There is a lot of secrets within both families and it did become pretty fascinating towards the end. I really enjoyed this but felt like it did not fit the genre.

3.5. It was slow going in some areas but once the biggest twist was revealed I was completely drawn in to how things would play out.

3.5 rounded up to 4. The first half was slow going and I wondered how everything would wrap up and come together in the second half, but it does pick up speed.

I was enjoying it from the beginning but then the end of "the second part"

Audiobook. I did not think the epilogue made sense.

In this book, we follow two point of views, one from upper class rebecca who works in the publishing world and lives at home with her husband and their adopt daughter. and the other is jasmine, a chinese immigrant who came to america for something very specific. although i guessed the twist pretty early on, this was a good book and both povs were interesting to me and the storyline overall was engaging and though provoking. the ending was a tad extra in my eyes and for some reason the dialogue between anthony and jasmine was annoying to me, it felt very amateur. the dialogue between her and everyone else was normal so im not sure why there’s was so different. i also hate the storyline of wow she’s so ugly and unassuming but as soon as she lets her hair down and changed clothes she’s the most gorgeous girl ever! that trope has gotten old for me. but overall a solid read
