I loved it and can't wait to read more in the series.

I'm glad we finally got to have Cordelia and Aiden's story since we have seen them circle around each other for two other books. It was a little funny how blind each of them were to the others feelings along with their own feelings. I also love that you get little peaks into the other characters lives now that they have their own happily ever after. I felt that the ending with Cordelia's mother was a bit anti climatic after everything else that had gone on, but I wasn't too disappointed. Overall I loved this story.

THere was a point I was reading and I was thinking, oh this book is a four star for me which is abnormal because every Garwood book for me is always a five stars and then BAM....BOOM...BAM again and I changed my mind as soon as I read the next page.

FOur stars turned into Five stars in a mere second.

I love d this book and no body can change my mind about it.

It was written beautifully...obviously...It's Julie Garwood after all..

Cordie and Aiden story was sweet but man oh man I had hoped her mother would have had a better reason but nope..she was just plain evil and stupid.

I loved it...

I repeat

I loved it...

NOw if only This beautiful author could take a break from contemporary to historical...because we all know nobody writes a better historical than Julie Garwood.

Fast Track by Julie Garwood is a 2014 Berkley publication.

As you can tell, I’m taking a little mini-break from ARC reviews and checking out some books from the library, discovering books I’ve missed out on, and touching base with authors I have lost touch with over the years.

Julie Garwood is an author I loved a long while back when she primarily wrote historical romance novels. Now, she seems to be sticking with romantic suspense, a favorite genre of mine, but for some reason, when she made the switch, I never followed her over. I have read a smattering of her RS novels, but it’s been many years since I picked up a book by this author. So, when I saw this one in the library, I decided to check it out. I do realize this book is pretty deep into a series, but apparently, it can be read as a standalone.

When Cordelia’s father makes a startling death bed confession, she discovers her mother is alive and well, living in Australia. She also discovers the woman has a heart of stone. But, Cordelia wants her mother to know she is aware of what really happened all those years ago, and to at least see her face to face. So, she travels to Australia, gets the eye contact she was hoping for, but inadvertently stirs up a hornet’s nest that could get her killed.

Aiden, is Cordelia’s best friend’s brother, a guy Cordelia has been in love with forever. When he is lured into traveling to Australia with Cordelia, he suddenly finds himself feeling protective of her and perhaps a little possessive too. The sparks fly, but Cordelia doesn’t want to be like her father, loving someone she can never have, and vows to move on with her life, and start fresh. Could Aiden have other plans?

This is a mildly interesting romantic suspense story, with a kind of a soap opera feel to it to me for some reason. A vindictive, morally bankrupt family, drunk on money and power, is furious when Cordelia throws a kink into their orderly lives, and disrupts their grand plans for the future.

The chemistry between Aiden and Cordelia was pretty superficial in my opinion, without much emotional connection, and seemed pretty much like friends with benefits all the way through till the end.

I know this author has done better work, and this book in certainly not a great representation of her talent. It was okay and enjoyable enough, and it was nice bumping into Julie Garwood after such a lengthy absence.

3 stars

Cordelia Kane has always been a daddy’s girl—her father raised her alone after her mother died in a car crash when Cordelia was just two years old. So when he has a serious heart attack, Cordelia is devastated, and the emotion is only intensified by the confusion she feels when he reveals the shocking truth about her mother.

Cordelia can’t suppress her curiosity about the woman who gave birth to her, and when she discovers the answers to her questions lie in Sydney, Australia, she travels there to get them.

Hotel magnate Aiden Madison is Cordelia’s best friend’s older brother. He’s oblivious to the fact that she’s had a crush on him for years. When he gets railroaded into taking her along to Sydney on his company jet, he’s unwittingly drawn into a volatile family drama.

Aiden wants to help Cordelia get answers about her mother, but threats from her wealthy, high-powered family are quickly becoming dangerous. Sparks are flying between Cordelia and Aiden, but after multiple attempts are made on Cordelia’s life, Aiden realizes he must put a stop to the madness before he loses the thing he values most.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I am testing my memory on this story. I believe Aiden and Cordelia’s crush started way back in a previous book. I believe it was Murder List back in 2004 and now 10 years later they come together again. Aiden was always more of a big brother figure because he was her best friend’s older brother, but she has a huge crush on the guy. This time they are thrown together due to circumstances beyond their control and her crush is reciprocated in a big way. Now she just has to stay alive and they need to realize they belong together.

The plot of this one was very engaging. After all these years Cordie’s father reveals a secret on his deathbed about her mother. My heart was breaking for her and she had the courage to uncover the truth even though it put her in mortal danger.

There is also a subplot involving the Madison brothers. Two are very active in the family hotel business and the third brother is more of a playboy who races cars and hooks up with a variety of ladies. An accident has sidelined him and he decides to get involved in a deal his brothers have written off. Spencer and Aiden are not happy about Walker taking on the deal and family drama ensues. Add this to Cordie’s drama and it makes a helluva story!

Yes, this book is part of the Buchanan / Renard / MacKenna series but what I like it that Julie Garwood writes them so they can each stand alone. Characters have returned from previous books but they are full and fleshed out so that you don’t have to reread or try to remember how everyone got to where they are today. But everyone that I have read has been very entertaining so if you can you should start at the beginning. When writing about family drama, suspense and romance Julie Garwood is one of the best.

I am hoping we don’t have to wait another 10 years to revisit these characters. I would love to Walker have his own adventure soon as he decides whether he wants to concentrate on the family business or on his playboy pleasures.

I really enjoyed this story. It wasn't fast paced but it was different. Passionate and frustrating.
mysterious fast-paced

I really enjoyed this addition to the series. I found it fast-paced and suspenseful. I've been waiting for Cordelia and Aiden's story for a long time. Aiden is very buttoned up and doesn't really communicate his emotions. But, he's the brother that takes care of everything. In his own way, he is very caring. Cordelia has loved him since she was five years old. When her father dies and she learns that he spent his life loving her mother who was long gone, she vows to change her life. Aiden is in "taking care of" mode with Cordelia. He helps her with things related to her dad's death and her mother. They become close but she assumes it is just a short term thing. I found the end satisfying and was glad they got their happily ever after (and that finally Aiden is slowing down in business).

Cordelia gets the shock of her life on her father's deathbed. He reveals that the mother she always thought died when she was a little girl is actually alive and had abandoned her and her father when Cordie was a baby. Unsure of what to do with this information, she finds love and support from her lifelong friends.

Aiden has always been Cordie's idea of Price Charming. The older brother of her good friend Regan, he's never known about Cordie's crush on him. He offers to fly Cordie out to Australia where her estranged mother lives, so Cordie can get some form of closure from the situation.

Things begin to heat up between the two of them, and their attraction for each other is undeniable. But is it all just temporary? Or can they really be the true thing? All thoughts of love have to be put on hold when an attempt at Cordie's life lands her in the hospital and all fingers point to a mother who never wanted her to exist in the first place. Now Aiden takes it upon himself to make sure Cordie remain safe.

This is the first book I've read by Julie Garwood. I know that sounds almost blasphemous, but it's true. She's been on my TBR list for a long time though and when I saw this title available on Netgalley I thought I would give her a try finally.

I understand that Fast Track is part of a larger series by Garwood, but despite this fact, I was not lost at all. This book reads like a true stand-alone, and while other characters have appeared in previous books in the series, Garwood does a great job explaining who they are without bogging down the story with complete recaps of who they are. We get just enough to understand.

For all that this is a pretty quick read, I felt like it took a while to get to the main point of the story. Because I this I felt the beginning dragged a little. Only when Cordie gets on to her mission of finding her mother and the trouble that ensue's does this change.

Also, the relationship between Cordie and Aiden seemed a little flat. Told in multiple third person points of view, when we are reading through Cordie, we get her thought on Aiden and her feelings. The times we read from Aiden, he doesn't reveal much. It made me wonder how he thought of Cordie in the first place. Wonder if she was just a convenience like she at first imagines she is to him.

I did like the small glimpses Garwood would give readers from an outsider of the relationship, such as Regan's husband Alec. It was interesting to see the Cordie / Aiden situation from his point of view.

Overall, I thought the story followed a predictable pattern. That didn't mean it wasn't enjoyable. Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and relax enjoying something that truly isn't going to stress out your senses.

I definitely want to give something else by Garwood a try. Possibly one of her historical romances.

*This ARC was provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The book gets an extra star because the heroine wasn't a complete nitwit. The plots for the contemporaries seems to be essentially the same, with an alpha male lead and everyone waxing poetic about how gorgeous the heroine is with her "perfect body."
I find myself caring very little about the characters. I miss the humor found in Garwood classics, like "The Bride."
