As someone who has delved into the topics of happiness and aestheticism a lot lately, I figured a book on wabi sabi would be right up my alley. Instead what I got was a book that was sometimes on topic, but mostly skewed with the author’s ego-filled anecdotes that sometimes lasted pages and gave me little insight into the heart of wabi sabi. On completing this book, I find myself further from understanding it’s core concept than ever.

Not what I expected but exactly the right book at the right time. It is so much more than decluttering and being intentional with your social calender. This book captures perfectly that everything is connected and that imperfect is not only okay but it is what we should strive for.

A perfectly imperfect book in so many ways. I will now bring wabi sabi into my home, work, finances and career. I will try my best to be a better person. Plus I must visit Japan soon. As it is imperfect it gets 4.8 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book throughout the summer, it brought some much needed peace during this global pandemic.

I had this book for months and months before I finally decided to give it a shot and then declutter it to the street library. I expected it to be some lifestyle-design fluff without much depth and very obvious advice. And while it had some of that, it had quite a few gems that stopped me in my tracks. I ended up taking my time to read it and may not declutter it after all. Some chapters spoke to me (career, seizing moments) while some fell flat (relationships). Overall a worthwhile read and a wake up call in some areas.
