Pretty sure this will get the award for my shortest read of the year, coming in at 147 pages total.

I really enjoyed this translated story, focused on Takako’s journey to finding herself after a bad breakup. From living in her uncle’s used bookstore for a while to her strengthening of relationships with herself, her uncle, and her aunt who has reappeared after 5 years - so many heartwarming takeaways.

If you’re looking for a short, not too heavy read - consider picking this one up.

📖 Takako is going through a difficult time. When her uncle reaches out with an offer to stay at his bookshop and help out when needed, she reluctantly agrees to a temporary stay. She’s not a reader and not really interested in reconnecting with long lost family. Takako is surprised by how much she falls in love with the little book shop and she discovers a passion for reading. She learns a lot during her stay at the bookshop and meets many friends along the way.

💭 I loved the setting and I had to look up to see if Jimbocho, Japan was a real place. It is and they really do have a huge, yearly used book sale festival. It would be a dream to be able to go there and see it in person. I bet it’s amazing! I liked seeing Takako’s growth throughout the book and seeing her develop relationships with her family and friends was heartwarming. I just felt like something was missing from the story for me. I just wanted more from it I guess. I think my favorite part of the book was seeing Takako develop a love of reading. It made my book loving heart so happy! I’m looking forward to reading book two when it comes out.

It's a short lighthearted and yet emotional read about a girl trying to find herself and the complexities of her aunt/uncle's relationship that she finds herself in the middle of when she moves into her uncles bookshop.

I picked this up for the first time many months ago and couldn’t get into it, but then I got dumped and it was a perfect little benign escape for a busy brain! I don’t think the story will stick me in the long term, though.

"It's important to stand still sometimes. Think of it as a little rest in the long journey of your life. This is your harbour, and your boat is just dropping anchor here for a little while. And after you're well rested, you can set sail again"

Enjoyable and inspiring. It's good to read stories about finding the joy in slow, peaceful life. Now I'm in the mood to check out the authors mentioned in the book!
