I really loved the vibe, I loved Takako, Satoru and Wada. I wish it had focused more on the library and Satoru, like the first half of the book. the second half I only liked because Wada was there, but I hated
momoko, like I hate how nobody is a dry because she left and then came back, and then left and came back again, I don't trust her, I don't like her personality I hate herrr. I hate that half of the book was about her and that it ended with her. like it was interesting to learn about momoko's and satoru's love story but I wanted to see it more from satoru's perspective and pain, not momoko. anyway, I still like pretty much everything else, momoko made the book worse, I'm serious, I didn't need all that momoko.

after finding out her boyfriend (yes, boyfriend) is getting married, takado quits her job and falls into a deep depression. during this lonely period, she receives a call from her uncle, offering her a place to stay in the family bookshop in exchange for some help around the store. reluctantly, she accepts. surrounded by second hand books, she begins to develop a love for reading, and befriends customers and locals alike, at the neighborhood coffee shop.

the first half of the book focuses on takados building relationship with her uncle, friends, and books, where she learns how to reconnect with herself. the later half focuses on her uncles estranged wife’s reappearance.

this is a book that you read for the vibes! it is so heartwarming and sweet with no major plot line, just a lot of love.

“I wanted to see the whole world for myself. I wanted to see the whole range of possibilities. Your life is yours. It doesn't belong to anyone else. I wanted to know what it would mean to live life on my own terms.”

If you're looking for a story structure and pacing that's found in anime films, this is it. It reads like one, it visually appears as one to the reader's eye and personally, served as fresh air in the stuffiness of big books.

It is well translated, which cannot be said for all Japanese lit available right now. A light and quick read for the weekend, so pick it up today. Hope it helps you breathe better, like it did with me. ✨

This book is like a special sentimental gift that reminds me again how much I love books.

Takako's passive character in the beginning was very similar to me, so it was easy to relate to her. I also really like her uncle! Can you imagine running a bookstore? Ugh, literally my childhood dream! All the characters are so so lovely! Some of the books mentioned made me very curious and interested in reading them. Overall, this was such a quick cozy book. I love it.
