A fun ride! Honestly, surprising it was written by a man because it’s totally reads like a woman-written book. Left off on a cliff hanger but still gave a good ending.

first dnf of the year! the concept was really great, but it’s evident that it was written by a man. the amount of unnecessary swear words and mentioning modern things such as “netflix” and “reddit” really threw me off
Waking face down in a pond, you wonder where am I and how did I get here? You are told you have a great destiny, to save the humans from the wilder horde. You try.. and fail, get tortured, die.. end up in the pond again... and... again... and again. At some point you realize that being the hero isn't working. So you start looking for other avenues... A fun, if sometimes silly story, of a fed up valley girl, exploring darker options.

This was hilarious.
Tonally and stylistically, this reminded me of a crasser, more American (same thing? I say that as an American, don’t come for me) Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for fantasy readers. It also felt like a tiny love letter to the writer’s favorite D&D campaigns. Davi certainly sounded like a frustrated player poking at a puzzle the DM put in front of her a few times; in battle, more like the DM sitting back muttering at the players’ bad decisions.
Either way, sounded familiar to me.
Just before picking this up, I was telling a friend I needed something light and silly to soften the dark things I’d been pushing through all month. This definitely fit the bill.
Also, who can resist any story with a sexy strong orc lady, apparently?
(Davi, I get it. Lithe, dexy guys, strong women who could crush me.)

I feel like it would have loved this book based on the on-paper description, but it felt like a bullet point list of strategy and battles told by someone with a comical narrative voice. It was a struggle to get through this one.

What a funny little gem of a book! I really loved this adventure, and all of Davi's little asides and wandering thoughts were hilarious. My only complaint was the sheer amount of sex talk and cursing.
