This was so much fun!! I was laughing throughout and wanted to get back to reading whenever I had to put it down. I loved Davi’s remarks and humor and how she approaches everything. It felt like reading a video game and even as someone who doesn’t play, it was just so so entertaining. I loved the cast of side characters and how descriptive the world is. The magic system was easy to understand. The twists at the end were so good and I immediately placed a hold on book 2 when it ended. Jeanette Illidge is my new favorite narrator. The way she gave everyone a distinct voice, plus the sound effects! Amazing job. Can’t wait to listen to her narrate book 2!!

I wasn’t sure about this book, but the violence doesn’t stay as extreme after the opening. Davi may be angry enough to become the Dark Lord, but she never quite loses all of her compassion.

I had a good time reading this book even if sometimes the humor was a bit over-the-top for me. I generally like humorous fantasy and this was no exception.

I liked seeing the change in Davi after

she realized she might actually die permanently

, but I do feel like that could have come a bit earlier in the story as I was getting a bit tired of her irreverence and carelessness for human(oid) life by the midpoint of the book, but that might just be personal preference. I did like seeing her build relationships with people and I wish we got to see a bit more of that. 

I do feel like this was more of a Part One rather than a Book One, as I didn’t think the ending was as satisfying as I’d like, what with all the unanswered questions about the worldbuilding left. 

All in all, this was a fun romp and I might continue the series in the future when I’m in the mood for something light and humorous. 

Read if you like plot-based, funny, raunchy, irreverent fantasy.
