This was the first book I read by Grady Hendrix and I heard from nothing but endless praise for his writing style from friends..I’m in the camp now that believes that.
There is some truly dark and sinister things that occur in this book. But it’s not totally hopeless there is a sense of uplifting with these women that just start a book club of mainly murder reads where they create a bond with each other.
And eventually find themselves in a real life horror situation.

As an examination of sexism towards housewives and double work, it is a meaningful commentary. Do not be fooled by the title, description, or cover - this is not a fun romp with a vampire in suburbia. It is incredibly dark, with multiple needed content warnings. This is not a fun book - it is horror in the truest sense of the word.

This was not written for me. It’s one of those crime/mystery books written for middle aged white American moms, if you know what I mean. I don’t mean that in a bad way at all, I just don’t enjoy those books.

Some things that were in this book that you may want to know about in advance: the main characters son has an obsession with Nazis (no idea where this sub plot goes since I didn’t finish the book, but it’s mentioned frequently), racism (it takes place in the south in the 90s in a white community. But also, there is a
moderately graphic description of a lynching of a black man
so proceed at your own risk), a woman
bites off the ear of the main character. Like explicitly. On page.

Those are the main things that stood out to me

Definitely the darkest of Grady Hendrix's books I've read, and maybe the most horrifying, and not in a fun romp sort of way. Read the content warning tags before you dive in- I really wish I had, because I was expecting a different tone based on Hendrix's other books.
