Succinct and elegant. Both comical and sad. Emotional without being too sentimental. There is a very clear cause Wilder is a legend in more art form than one.

A lean, affecting story about love and war, with an expert's comic timing and a comic's appreciation for tragedy. The characterizations are a little thin, but the plot is tight. The World War I setting is also enjoyable, for a war setting anyway.

I couldn't help picturing Private Peachy as a slightly more put together version of Wilder's character in The Producers, but that didn't really hurt in the end.

This was a cute little story that kept me guessing as far as where the storyline was going. Very simple & straight to the point in the narrative style, with the protagonist being mostly overwhelmed yet level-headed in his situation.

I adored this book. Truly almost gave it 5 stars. An extremely quick read but not just because it is short. I had trouble putting it down. I found myself getting a smidge emotional at the last few pages. Glad I checked this one out.

This was a fun little farce. Nothing terribly deep, but an amusing read. The romance is sweet & the military aspect was interesting. A very short book; I finished it in a day.

This was actually quite lovely. Brilliant, funny, romantic and extremely odd, this tight little story of wartime intrigue, loss and love was poignant and a very quick read by the recently departed Gene Wilder. Despite the rudeness of the title, the book itself is very sweet and heartfelt, and the retained madcap energy of Wilder bleeds onto the page. Very enjoyable.

fun! except that because he is in enemy territory, i had to go back and read it again to enjoy it, the second time allowed me to withhold my blind paranoia. i was so scared for paul the whole time.
that i cared that much about the character proves something. the way he pulls it off is superb, and he keeps you with him the whole time.
