A very interesting and informative read, but also so slow, and filled with so much unrelated chatter about somebody's clothes etc.

Very interesting and fun to read! Ends up being more about "the ways to deal with wild animals" than about people suing crickets for the destruction caused to their crops. Coexistence is not only the best way to deal with these animal hazards but, apparently, the only one that shows good results.
The book draws itself out a bit lo ger than I'd like, but it might be cause I read the e-book version.

If people can be less cruel to rats, if it even crosses their minds to be less cruel to a rat, then things are heading in a good direction. Not just good for rats, maybe also good for humans. “If man can be taught to respect the home of the worm,” wrote the nineteenth-century historian Léon Ménabréa, “how much more ought he to regard that of his fellow man.”

A little dull in parts but definitely an interesting look at an area of study I knew absolutely nothing about. I would read anything by Mary Roach, to be honest.

Interesting and amusing. It's funny to me that the book affords all the animals reference with at least a little personality and agency, but refers to them as objects with the pronoun 'it'.

Funny, informative, surprisingly brutal. Stories about how wildlife and humans intersect (and mostly how problems occur because humans are the ones causing them or not fixing them in the right way).
