As good as any of the Wooster books. Don't know that I will remember the plot in a month, but it has all of the necessary elements: broken engagements, stiff male authority figures scolding Bertie, indignant Aunts and a nice tidy ending provided by Jeeves. Funny dialog and great new and returning characters make this a classic.
A Late Wodehouse. Very good. But, one feels, a little thin around the middle.
A distinct lack of Jeeves, and the feeling that this is the previous J&W books but thrown together in a blender, but it’s funny enough to carry it through

Jeeves has to cut short his shrimping holiday to save Bertie from certain marriage. Yes, that's shrimping holiday. People did things differently back then.

one time, i actually picked up a book by Spinoza, just because Jeeves liked him. It turns out, sometimes fictional characters are not great indicators of good philosophers.
Very very funny; but I swear it’s a carbon copy of a previous escapade in which four people visiting a country estate all get engaged in multiple machinations in order to elicit jealousy in their intendeds.
i reaaaalllly really miss Jonathan Cecil’s voice on this one. i forget whether he didn’t record it or if it’s one that’s locked away by digital rights in the UK, but either way this book is fantastic and only his voice would make it better. i have the Collector’s Wodehouse hardcover edition, which is very satisfying as well.
Bobbie Wickham and Aubrey Upjohn and the treacherous little dachshund Poppet all conspire to land poor courteous Bertram in the soup. i eat it with croutons.
