Enjoyed this one a lot. There was a perfect amount of angst. I also enjoyed the plot outside of the romance.

Ughhh. I really expected more from this book tbh. Like after the actually adequate grovel in the first book I thought this would match up or be even better considering the higher ratings but nope.

I just had a lot of issues with it, the biggest one being how it seemed like Mari was always in the wrong for not understanding Darragh and his poor tragic backstory (given that it was really tragic) despite him being the one who wronged her. Like the entire time I was waiting for Darragh to actually apologize for the way he treated her and acknowledge that he pulled an asshole move but nope. I'm just so tired of mmcs having their actions excused by the narrative. Like Mari has a tragic backstory too but she isn't constantly running away from him or being an asshole.

Like the reason why I actually liked book 1 was because Killian was in the wrong and knew it and actually tried to do better and actually grew as a character by the end. I just don't see any of that with Darragh. Mari was just the one who was putting in the work the entire time.

This book follows the story of Mari Fane, unmated female and orphan of the Quarry Pack (who we meet in the first book of the series). Mari mates with the lone wolf of the pack, Darragh, and after s quick pump and dump and then a little bit of her life being threatened, she's sworn off having a mate at all.

And so it goes, until four years later when she's trying to move on, to go and date other males. Except her first and only try and that goes wildly and dangerously wrong, in a turn of events that ends up bringing her and Darragh back into close contact. Though she's sworn him off, the two have to work together to get out of the bad situation they find themselves in, and Mari, of course, finds herself softening to her mate.

This book was interesting in the way that it took something that was mentioned in Rosie's book (the preceding one) and a different pack entirely, and gave it more context. The question being why Bog wolf couples had been disappearing for years.

I liked Mari, and I liked Darragh. Though the series is a bit repetitive in the general hall markers of the plot at this point (I mean, they're all called XYZ's Rejected Mate), Wells still mixed it up enough to keep it interesting, and she did so in this book as well. And for that, I've read 3 of the books in the series at this point and will definitely be reading all of them.

Would recommend if you've liked the preceding books in the series, romance, and werewolf smut.

This was another good addition to this series and it was another easy read. We are back within Quarry pack territory and Mari is another orphan living in the female single pack's cabin. Mari is whimsical and very feminine and despite her background still a bit of a dreamer discovering her mate in Darragh an older feral wolf that lives separated from the pack was initially a shock. When Mari's heat is triggered she expects her mate to claim her instead he does the bare minimum and leaves her unclaimed without a bite and provides minimal explanations for his behaviour.

Fast forward four years and Mari has learnt to lock down the bond and despite the constant gifts of meat Darragh gifts her, she now wants nothing to do with him. But when her life is placed in danger all bets are off and Mari finally discovers the real reason her mate has kept his distance and it's not for the reasons she's assumed.

This was less rejected and more protected from afar. I liked both Mari and Darragh, he had a gruff growly persona and he was the cloud to Mari's sunshine. Even their wolves were such polar opposites. Darragh attempting to protect Mari from his wolf meant that he couldn't claim what he so desperately wanted and because of his isolation and limited social skills he was unable to express this leaving her thinking the worst. This also had some action and danger and I was on the edge of my seat throughout this part. I also absolutely adored how Darragh's wolf was with Mari's especially considering just how dangerous he was and how dainty she was.
