i knew i wasn't gonna gaf about their story since the first book where they were hinted bc i just hate the tropes/dynamics but it truly is a testament to cate c wells' writing that i managed to still enjoy this overall. it did take a while because like i said i had no interest in these characters or their relationship whatsoever but i think even though their relationship bored me the book itself still managed to grab me. wells writes tension and layers characters well, and the prose and dialogue was written well as always. i only read this for the sake of getting to the next book but i would still recommend it to others because most of the issues i had with it were because of my own preferences more than the quality of the book.
Graphic: Death, Violence, Kidnapping, Sexual content, and Gore
Moderate: Abandonment, Sexual violence, Injury/Injury detail, Misogyny, and Sexual assault

Enjoyed the banter. It felt rushed. The friendship between Mari and Kennedy and Annie didn’t really seem to develop. The tension and plotting around the kidnapping but then the ending felt rushed after the cave. The spice was pretty good and I liked the contrast between Mari and Darragh. I do wish the author had not made her so quick to take so much blame as soon as she started to realize Darragh was more complicated than she gave him credit for. Overall, I enjoyed it and will read the others in the series.
Graphic: Drug abuse, Kidnapping, and Violence
Moderate: Sexual violence and Sexual assault

CW: discussion of sexual assault (off-page), abduction, violence, death, pregnancy, suicide,
This was slightly different than the other rejected mate stories. Both Darragh and Mari had a lot of baggage that they had to work through that affected how they accepted and didn't accept the mate bond. I thought Mari's resistance to the mate bond after Darragh purposefully botched things was pretty impressive. I, also, thought her conflict about some of her feelings after they got back together ran true. I really appreciated her theory about Darragh's wolf, too.
