I'd wager to say I'm even more enthusiastic about these Dog Man books than my son. The literary references are sharp and the humor is even more precise than Captain Underpants with far less of the gross out nonsense that Pilkey forces down our throats in those novels (and in Super Diaper Baby, which I simply couldn't stomach).

Dog Man's Lil Petey is a Winnie the Pooh for our ages and the hybrid family he has with Petey, 80HD, and Dog Man is sweet and inspiring. I was delighted to be able to scoop this up at the airport for light vacation reading and eagerly await the next one!

My favorite adventure yet! Pilkey pulls so many elements together so masterfully - classical allusions, complicated moral concepts, tricky vocabulary words, puns so lame you laugh out loud. Thanks to Lil Petey's best intentions, we meet Big Petey's dad and learn about the limits of redemption. An old villain (like really old - from Book One!) returns and we're introduced to a new hero with an unquenchable appetite for cupcakes. Delightful!

October 2019 - we're now caught up with the books published so far, and I've somehow become a Dog Man fan in the process. I mean, I might have almost teared up at one particularly sweet moment. Yes, there are still poop jokes and slapstick humor, but this series has heart in a way that Captain Underpants didn't.

Surprisingly good and touching story about the relationship between a father and a clone-son.
