Most unusual, disjointed romance I think I've read. Whiney, repetitive protagonist. Boringly clumsy. Skip this for a better read.

I really wanted to love this...but I just couldn't!

Loved the magic very much but the character, except Rosa, weren't very loveable for me. It was a lot of discussions, fights, smoking and more discussion that made me feel less and less enthusiastic about the story.

I loved Rosa character of sassyness and sarcasm but that was about it.

Also, why isn't there more info about Niamh's sickness...

A light hearted read that whisked me away to a magical past. I enjoyed the banter and friendship among the characters. Also, Kit and Niamh were so fun to read about. Both have some character development and grow. I loved how Kit teased Niamh and how she could see through the walls he put up.

One complaint; sometimes Niamh would mention the Fair Ones. There wasn't a whole lot of explanation about the fair ones. I think they're where the magic comes from?? Then, for the marriage, their vows involved a bishop and were under God. I guess the magic/religion bugged me because I don't feel like it was explained enough.

Overall though it is a very pleasant book that left me with happy feelings.

The characters did not grow, they devolved. Selfishness and acting purely based on emotion was lauded whereas acting on behalf of duty, responsibility, or for family was discouraged. The male lead, Kit, was a jerk whose mental faculties were questionable (being a drunkard from ages 14/15 - 17 does tend to do a number on mental development) and acted like a child. If he wanted something, he should have that thing. If he wanted to say or do something, he did. I wanted the female lead’s character to be a strong young woman who worked honestly to feed and house the family who had sacrificed much on her behalf. Instead she just sort of threw pity parties and wallowed naively. In general, acting for others and self-sacrifice were seen as bad traits so the characters simply got more selfish, impulsive, and hormone driven as the book went on. I really did want to like it, but the characters just couldn’t realize that working and sacrificing for your loved ones can be a beautiful thing.

I enjoyed this book!

I really did enjoy reading this book! It was super fun and the world was so magical. I enjoyed Kit and Niamh together I thought their relationship was really sweet (I also loved that they were both queer). The ending just felt really rushed to me, but besides that, it was pretty good.
