Listened to as an audiobook.
This was, for the most part, a really enjoyable listen and I think the humour was up my street. It was definitely light and a bit silly and quite predictable (I guess almost everything that happened) but I still enjoyed it. However right at the end there's some casual transphobia that's pretty much played off as a joke, and given how much homophobia is a theme through the book and very much addressed and heartfelt, the unaddressed transphobia that didn't add anything to the plot left me with a huge sour taste.

I really enjoyed this book, I just don’t like how it excluded trans people from the story and even used extremely outdated words to refer to them.

This one lost me a few times because the pacing occasionally felt uneven. Still, I appreciated a less romanticised view of rural living, especially as this is a romantic comedy. I always tend to have a less than realistic dream of moving to the countryside, partially because (as the main character notes) London is so anonymous. She likes it because that means any screw ups get lost in the city and not gossiped over by the whole village, but I’ve always found it makes it harder to connect with other people. Then again, who says that’s not hard in a smaller town. People are tricky. Excuse the meandering. I liked that the romance wasn’t really the main focus of the story.
Moderate: Homophobia and Animal death
Minor: Transphobia and Fatphobia
