I have to give this a One Star rating. Not only because it's slow paced, but the author has the magic ability of making it feel as though nothing has happened - even during scenes that are supposed to leave me on the edge of my seat. I just never felt engaged when reading, as though there was always something missing.

I feel as though I should also bring up the stereotypes that this author seems to cherish so much. Not only does she portray all gay men as flamboyant and ‘feminine’ but she uses slurs such as d*yke and tr*nsvestite. It made me quite uncomfortable.

I’m just going to leave it at that because ugh.

Billie is following her dreams of doing a PhD in London when her father falls ill and has to return to Yorkshire to take care of the family farm and the cow business. Is she ready to be a Cow Girl?
I was surprised of how “Cow Girl” is a refreshing and funny story but at the same time it shows how the world can change depending on your sexuality, because Billie is a lesbian and not everyone in Yorkshire accepts her choice. This story was eye-opening for me, being a woman is never easy in a “man” business, you feel downgraded but if you add to the mix your sexuality the situation becomes unbearable. But don’t worry, Billie doesn’t let anyone dismiss or degrade her, she is who she is and if you don’t like her you can always leave.
There are a few stories mixed in Cow Girl, on one side there is the farm business and how is being bought by the big brands, and on the other we have Billie’s love life and the situation of Billie’s PhD and how competitive is this world.
Don’t be fooled with the cover of this book, this is not only happy book but it will also make you think and change the way you see the world and I’ll admit that I loved every page. It is not easy to find a story with so many layers but original and interesting at the same time.
I would recommend to take a few hours of your daily routine and start reading “Cow Girl”, it is worth every minute. Ready?

I really liked this book, especially how realistic it felt. I asked my vet friends, and they confirmed that the descriptions of how Billie takes care of the farm and the problems she encounters are pretty realistically described, which I liked. I also really liked Billie's sarcasm and the way she handles homophobia. I just found the ending a bit anticlimactic...

There was only one thing that prevented me from giving it 5 stars: the constant fatphobia. Of course, the "bad guy" in the story is a fat man... Of course, every time he enters the picture hit fatness must be mentioned. It was incredibly annoying. And it was not just him! There is a scene where Billie has to sit down and apparently there are A LOT of empty seats she could choose from, but she chooses to sit next to a large man and then complains that she has to sit sideways on her chair because he takes up space. The author tried to blame Billie's discomfort on the fact that the guy was manspreading, but honestly, just seat in another bloody chair!
