I LAUGHED, I SMILED, I GIGGLED. This was such a good book, to be totally honest, this was my first completely satisfying and so-worth-it romance novel. The banter, the angst, the pining, the yearning, it was all GIVING.
I loved all the accurate, authentic and faithful desi muslim representation, it felt so good to read a novel properly describe our faith and convey all what it means to be a muslim without reducing us to stereotypes. This book has definitely inspired me to read more contemporary muslim author novels.
Characters-
Let's start with Ayesha. I JUST LOVE HER. She was such a strong, inspiring and a force to be reckoned with character. I love how she has such a strong self respect, loved how she rejected Khalid when he proposed her in the most disrespectful way possible, even though she too was in love with him. Loved how she didn't compromise her self respect at all! Also I loved how she wasn't reduced to stereotypes or just love since it was a romance novel. She was her own person, she had her own life, her dreams, her passions, her loved ones and ofcourse, love. I like how she finally has character development and recognises her true calling.
Khalid- His character development from a judgemental, close minded, mama's boy to an open minded, compassionate, understanding guy who can take charge, is responsible and can make his own decisions was so good! When you've been conditioned to listen to people in authority and serve them your whole life, it's impossible to break through, I would know, that's why when Khalid broke out of the jail his mother had built for him, I CHEERED!
Nana and Nani were such lovable characters. I just loved them tbh
Clara was another favourite. We all deserve a Clara in our lives!
This book was the perfect bollywood-esque novel, my only qualms being that we didn't get to see Khalid and Ayesha once they got together and how their relationship was actually like :(

A loose reimagining of Pride and Prejudice in a modern American Muslim community. Fun, quick, light.

There are some characters that I loathe so much to the point I reluctant to continue this book. Even the main charachters, Ayesha and Khalid, they have their fair share of trait that I'm not fond of. But I love how vocal and outspoken Ayesha is, she doesn't let others step on her. Khalid, on the other hand, frustrated me more because I feel like he couldn't stand up for himself. I enjoyed this story most of the time, but the plot escalated quickly to my liking and it's a little bit boring toward the end.
I'm so glad I picked this up! It's marketed as a "Pride and Prejudice with a twist", and I think it was really intriguing to read about. The overall plot was also really exciting - there was so much drama!! So many twists and turns! It was fun to read, and there were so many fun elements that the author incorporated. I wish we were able to explore a susbet of those elements more (there were some character attributes, character relationship attributes, backstory and plot elements, etc which I wish we got to see more of) - but overall was just very sucked in by the plot and * DRAMA * so I didn't mind too much (haha)
