mostly good, charming and witty book. Only complaints is that some of the villains aren't nuanced enough. But overall clearly a talented writer who has good pacing and imagery in her fiction.
DNF because I decided it would be 100% chaste and I'd be forever wondering what it was like when they did the deed and I just didn't want to waste my time.
Cute, funny, clever, contemporary twist on Pride & Prejudice. At first, I didn't really think it matched, but there were definitely some similarities and it was done in a cute, updated reboot.
Not gonna lie I just didn't like the audiobook reader. I may come back to this one but who knows.
I adored these characters, even though so many suffered from a failure to communicate. The story was overall just heartwarming. Bonus points for the chai recipe at the end.
I loved this! But I am also a sucker for a p&p retelling. This was a very superficial understanding of what arranged marriages are like in the Muslim faith. I think A Woman is No Man really gives you insight. But I do think that any story with an arranged marriage makes the ideals of p&p still valid. Because Darcy and Elizabeth fell for each other so quickly, it makes sense that Khalid and Ayesha did too. I loved the parallels and highly recommend to any Austen fan.
AAAAAAAAAH!

This book just makes me happy - technically a re-read.
It's a P&P re-telling and it has it's flaws (the romance felt rushed, Ayesha wasn't as fleshed out as I wanted, the switching POV's could be confusing) but it's a quick read and it makes me so happy. It's also a good one for teens because it doesn't have a lot of mature content that most adult fiction has.

I think where this book succeeded was in its inclusion of a very charming love story with Muslim representation and some good drama thrown in that made for an incredibly satisfying conclusion. I really enjoyed learning more about the cultural and political aspects of Muslim families and communities and am delighted that a book like this exists. I really liked Ayesha's character and her friendship with Clara, and Khalid definitely grew on me throughout the story. His growth was spectacular.
Where the book fell flat for me was in its writing and aspects of the characters and story that seemed frivolous and unnecessary. The writing could have been better, and I felt like a lot of scenes/chapters weren't needed or ended very abruptly. *Minor spoiler alert* Some of the characters like Sheila and Tarek were so full of bad characteristics and behaviors that it read less like a fictional book and more like a really over-acted dramedy. They were very one-dimensional characters. This book tried to tackle lots of problems in lots of pages and the way Sheila and Tarek's personalities and behaviors were addressed felt very Disney-villain, surface-level esque.
This is between 3 and 3.5 stars for me.
