Ayesha At Last

Challenge your stereotypes and celebrate South Asian culture and Muslim diversity in this romantic comedy with nods to Pride and Prejudice. Ayesha is a poet and substitute teacher who is aware that at 27, her family and community are despairing that she's an old spinster. Khalid is a conservative Muslim who draws the ire of his new boss and the humor of his friends for his traditional dress and contentment with the arranged marriage process. At the same time, however, he can't stop thinking about the beautiful neighbor in the purple hijab...
Like a true Shakespearean comedy, this modern story is complete with farce, revenge, mistaken identity, and meddling relatives.

More of a nod to Pride and Prejudice than a modern day retelling but still a very delightful romance.

Awww, I LOVED this sweet romance which integrated religion, culture, family, ideal, sacrifice into the story. Sure there are traces of Pride and Prejudice and also Comedy of Errors but the story belongs to Uzma Jalaluddin. Bravo!

Very cute, fun and quick. I really enjoyed this take on Pride and Prejudice.

It took me a little bit to get into it and figure out who everyone is but WOW! I loved it!

Very good, easy to read, Muslim Rom Com, I couldn't put it down!

I understand why so many people have this on their DNF list. The beginning is a bit obvious and reads almost like a children’s book with a lesson. Still, I’m glad I powered through, as it eventually grabbed my attention. This needed the (loose) connection to Pride & Prejudice, and I appreciated the diverse perspective. The audiobook was interesting as well, particularly with the various accents and dialects. Good one from the library.

January book challenge by the FOLD (Festival of Literary Diversity)
Theme: Romance by a Asian Canadian

I'm not a romance novel fan, but I went with it since it was the challenge month's theme. It's a very cute book although quite predictable (but maybe that's not so important in this genre, and I read too many detective and mystery novels). I loved however the insider view on Muslim and Urdu proposal and wedding traditions and life.
