This book is ok, but It isn’t my favorite type of read. However, I think it could make a decent play for a couple reasons. The theater could highlight the humor of over-the-top characters that was hard to appreciate in a book. It a bit superficial, but I don’t have the same expectations of depth when enjoying a play for a couple hours compared to investing a few days in a book. It falls somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, but not quite as good as a lot of my 4 star books.
A sweet romance
3.5 stars. This was a sweet, clean romance, and I enjoyed the story and learning more about the Muslim faith and Indian culture. However, the characters were somewhat flat and there parts of the story that felt contrived and overdone.

Really sweet story. It would make a great rom-com movie. I did think when we first met Vanessa and Lorraine of WomenFirst Design that they were going to become something of a fairy-godmother/love advisor role for Khalid, but they didn’t quite pop up in the story line as much as I was hoping - maybe the movie version will give them a slightly bigger role - would be a fun addition!
Cute rom com that also taught me more about Muslim culture. But just expect a rom com. It is cheesy and annoying at times, with the worst characters being Sheila and Hafsa (yes, even worse than the controlling mom). Also, are there no HR laws in Canada?!

Ayesha, can you loan me your Nana, cuz I would love to have someone quote me Shakespeare haha that was just the cutest.
This book has a special place in me heart. I mean it tackles everything from, insecurities, abortion, arranged marriages, tackling pride, deception, love oh lordy so much love, knowing your self-worth, finding your identity, racism, islamophobia…need I go on.
The storyline just kept me hooked, kind of predictable in places but uugh it was the best I laughed and nearly cried with it and just loved seeing the evolution of the characters. The story behind Ayesha’s Dad and her background and what her Mom went through that just tore me apart, so heart wrenching and educated me so much I am super grateful for it. Zareena’s story again killed me so powerfully written, absolutely beautiful. I love the friendship between Clara and Ayesha goals right there and even with Hafsa when she is not stuck up her own a**.
Khalid and Ayesha together uugh so friging cute, I love it they bring out the best and worst in each other, but more than that there is understanding, friendship and more important love between them. And he is so witty even if he doesn’t no it and how he helps Amir and his love for his sister uugh Ayesha you got a good one there. I love the relationship between Ayesha and her Nani (remind me not to mess with her) haha she is just the best who kicked some major a** because she is loyal and has my gyal’s back, and the love between her and Nana ultimate couple goal right there that no one can beat. Finally, Ayesha, fierce confident your poetry puts mine to shame haha this gyal is who you need and want by your side.
Loved this book so much!! And it is so funny and kills you in places, metaphorically and physically but honestly forget Asian dramas they have ad’s, this…this right here is exactly what you need. So beautiful, so touching. Perfect!

Wanted to love it. Did not. Wish the main love interest had more or any redemption of character. He just ‘decided he’d change’ and bam - happily ever after. Loved the diversity. Stayed for main character and the food ofc
Oof, really enjoyed this. Muslim rom-com with clear hints at feminism and the tensions caused by expectations of religion and culture, and how that intersects with current Millenial life. Wasn't too mushy, and I appreciated that it didn't resort to physicality that normal romance does.
