Such a fun read with some of my favorite female characters I’ve read. The banter was witty and quirky and had me laughing out loud. Getting to learn a little more about a culture I know little about was a huge plus. So much deception and backstabbing and the ending was pure blissful retribution. A solid, enjoyable read.

I enjoyed so much about this book, but I do not recommend it specifically because of the amount of fat phobia throughout. Saloni, a plus sized side character who becomes a main character, is constantly vilified bc of her size and there are no conversations of why this is wrong or why she shouldn’t be ashamed of her body. I want to say having sensitive readers would have helped this book, but I think it’s actually Parini Shroff who needs to unlearn fatphobia. There was no care in writing this character, and only a minute amount of empathy for her. It’s prominent enough that this review only mentions this display and nothing else.

One of the funniest books I have read this year. A woman, Geeta, whose husband has disappeared is roped into helping some of the women in her micro-loan group murder their husbands. Eventually she ends up being blackmailed by one of the women and she needs to produce her missing husband. Very conveniently, he shows up again and seems apologetic, having lost his vision. He quickly resumes his abuse and attempts to isolate Geeta from her newfound (and refound) friends, so she needs to become a widow again. The climax, a botched murder plot (he wasn’t blind), was funny and cathartic. So many hilarious details and characters while also dealing with some pretty serious subject matter, but unlike other attempts, this worked so well.
