As someone how knew very surface level things and large highlights about 2000’s pop culture this was incredibly interesting.
Just when I started to get a little tired of the historical retelling, the author zooms in or out to analyze different aspects of this famous woman’s mistreatment by the media and the public. I found it incredibly interesting when given the before and after of a milestone event that I knew, and then little bits and pieces of what else is going on at the time, like Perez Hilton’s career trajectory or the impact of 9/11 on media.
If you’re an expert in early 2000’s pop culture this probably won’t be that good of a read but if you know the icons, their greatest hits and a couple of their landmarks - wow this is interesting!
